Some may be guilty of putting too much stress on their hair; it can be through chemical treating, straightening, or even bleaching. There is a lot of treatment and products available in the market for us now. It’s so many that sometimes we don’t know which treatment will give you a good result or which product can give you the healthy hair you desire. That’s why maintaining healthy hair might be challenging. We have compiled some tips to help you decide how to get healthy hair.
Use a Hair Mask
A hair mask helps with strengthening hair that is damaged. Better than a conditioner because it can intensely penetrate our hair and gives a thick coating to your hair, keeping it conditioned without compromising the natural hair oils. Also, it has a hydrating effect on our hair, promoting healthy and thick hair.
You can still use a hair mask even you are using a conditioner, but it should be at least once a week. The amount of time it needs to stay on your hair may vary from product to product; 10-15 minutes is is the ideal time to get the best results.
Stop Using Sulfates
You might notice that almost all of the leading hair care brands contain sulfate. But, some are starting to promote non-sulfate products.
Sulfates are called surfactants, a compound used for detergent, emulsifier, foaming agents, and wetting agents. They’re used because they spread the liquid on our hair, creating a foam that cleans and removes oil and dirt from our hair. Surfactants are a chemical that eliminates keratin in hair that can cause our hair to be dry and breakable.
Be More Careful If Our Hair Is Wet
Naturally, a human hair is strong, but when it’s wet, it vulnerable to damage. You might notice that baldness often occurs after bathing. That is why our hair has cuticle; made of dead cells that form a scale. When wet, the protective scale in the cuticles become too fragile and weak.
To avoid damage even when our hair is wet, we can gently blot the hair and don’t rub it. Untangle the hair with a comb or fingers to prevent the cuticle from widening. We can use a detangling spray then blow-dry the hair on medium heat to cool setting. Lastly, don’t go to bed when our hair is still wet to avoid damage.
Always Remove Tangles in Our Hair
This might not be applicable to those people who are heavily haired or using hair extensions. Removing tangles in our hair prevents breakage, plus it helps to retain the length of our hair. But don’t over brush your hair because it can cause damage too. So brush it enough to remove tangles and style your hair.
